Building a third wheel for a LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Robot is always an interesting and challenging task. These building instructions are for a third back wheel. You can even notice that there is no wheel involved. It is just LEGO parts but it is one of the most stable ways to build a third wheel. There is some friction, of course, but not that much.

A robot a 'day'. Finish the construction yourself. Attach wheels
There are constructions, especially on our platform, that you could build partially and then experiment with different ways to complete them. This is a very good exercise for creativity. It is sometimes difficult to build a whole robot from scratch, but finishing the robot with a few wheels and attachments is doable.
