After the first box robot course and its enormous success, we decided to build a second box robot. This time with fewer parts and with only three motors. The EV3 set comes with one medium motor and this robot will be easier for new teams. It is also lighter and more simple. Take the course and learn the ideas that we have in mind in simplifying a robot. Use this course with students and try to experiment to make the attachments and construction even simpler.
In this tutorial we demonstrate how a Drop Mission could be accomplished with a Drop Attachment. In this video tutorial we look at Vertical Lift Attachments. The attachment, the root and the mission model are all build from LEGO MINDSTORMS Robot Inventor 51515 set. We've found that vertical lift attachments that could lift missions models vertically could be quite useful for FIRST LEGO League competitions. This attachment is one of the more complex attachments and some say it has an "eye opening" mechanism as you can learn so much from it. It uses gear wheels and two levers connected to those gear wheels to lift a part vertically.
Dominator is a compact LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Box robot from the family of the Roller Coaster and Kiddo box robots. Similar to the previous two robots, Dominator also can move its front part up, down, left and right. This robot also has the same length of movement as its two predecessors of this type - 8 LEGO pins on the side and up.
The difference is that Dominator has fewer parts and has a perfect center of weight that allows it to use large attachments and lift heavy objects without threatening its stability. The movement on the X and Y axes has the same gear ratio. The light sensors are attached to the movable part of the robot which enables it to both follow a line and recognize the color of various object with height lower than 7 LEGO units.

This tutorial explains the use of motion and light/color sensors to accomplish a complex mission split into three parts. It gets into detail about how we keep a straight line with the motion sensor, follow a line with the color sensors, and transition between different parts of the program by aligning and detecting lines with the sensor. The goal is to get to a reliable and consistent behavior of the robot. On top of that, it is configurable, as we've left a few parameters that could be set to configure the behavior for a specific robot, venue, lighting, battery level, and wheels friction.
