This instruction adds to the Onwards and cupwards robot.
This robot is designed to lift a cup smoothly while keeping it upright. With a motor attached to the side of the Hub, the robot can raise the cup to different angles.
With a few adjustments, you could even replace the LEGO cup and try lifting a real one. Just be careful with liquids - the robot doesn’t enjoy drinks as much as you do!
This attachment is designed for the Smaller Pancake - SPIKE Prime Box Robot and is used to complete Mission 05: Who Lived Here?, Mission 06: Forge, and Mission 07: Heavy Lifting in the FIRST LEGO League 2025-2026 UNEARTHED competition. The attachment positions the robot accurately in front of the mission models and interacts with each mechanism in sequence. In one run, it presses the Forge lever to release the stones, activates the Who Lived Here? model, and pushes a stone into the Right base. In a separate run, it pushes or captures the Millstone and transports it to the Right base.
How do you lift heavy objects with an attachment? In this episode we show a simple, interesting, but yet not very popular way to lift something heavy with and LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robot and without gears and motors as attachment. As a specific example we are using the Strength Exercise mission from the FIRST LEGO League 2012 competition.
This is not the usual straight trip from base to mission model. For Mission 7: Heavy Lifting in the FLL UNEARTHED season, the Smaller Pancake box robot deliberately travels outside the mat, uses the table wall as a reference, and reaches the Millstone with an active pinless attachment.
Mission 7 looks playful in a single run; ten attempts show how much it depends on the table. In this FLL 2025 UNEARTHED competition test, the Smaller Pancake box robot uses the Heavy Lifting attachment after aligning against the wall.
