This is a 10 out of 10 video tutorial that is different from the rest. We demonstrate how difficult it is to accomplish a mission and we use an attachment that is working 5 out of 10 times. Our goal with the video is to give everybody the understanding that taking your time to accomplish a mission is the right thing. Most of the 10 out of 10 tutorials at FLLCasts contain solutions and approaches that are working in a repeatable fashion. Not this one. See how difficult it is to accomplish a mission and that we also make mistakes.

In this video tutorial, we demonstrate a configurable attachment used for accomplishing a FIRST LEGO League 2021-2022 Cargo Connect mission called Sorting Center. The mission model has three cargo objects that are placed randomly. The attachment is configured before the run based on the configuration of the cargo objects. This attachment is also very powerful as it aligns and auto-corrects the errors that the robot is making by squaring the robot.

This tutorial explains the use of motion and light/color sensors to accomplish a complex mission split into three parts. It gets into detail about how we keep a straight line with the motion sensor, follow a line with the color sensors, and transition between different parts of the program by aligning and detecting lines with the sensor. The goal is to get to a reliable and consistent behavior of the robot. On top of that, it is configurable, as we've left a few parameters that could be set to configure the behavior for a specific robot, venue, lighting, battery level, and wheels friction.

This is a 10 out of 10 tutorial on a basic approach for one of the unique challenges in FIRST LEGO League competitions. This basic approach to a solution is not very consistent, and in some of the next tutorials, we will present a new solution. But we decided to record it to demonstrate how reliable this attachment is when it comes to carrying large objects. That could give you ideas of things to avoid.

In this video tutorial, we use the Unload Cargo Ship mission from FIRST LEGO League 2021 Cargo Connect robotics competition to demonstrate how we program the robot to keep a straight line while moving. Do we need that for this mission? Probably not, but we do it either way to demonstrate the solution in a fairly simple mission. This video tutorial is for the Tire Flip Mission from FIRST LEGO League 2020 RePlay robotics competition. Flip missions are always some of the most interesting and challenging. In this tutorial you would learn how to build an attachment and accomplish a mission that requires you to flip a part, like flipping a coin. Most of the complexity for this mission is in the attachment and not the programming, but this is also way it works perfectly, every single time.

In this video tutorial, we accomplish the FIRST LEGO League 2021-2022 mission called Platooning Trucks. The goal is to connect the two mission models (trucks) to each other and then connect them both to the bridge. It's quite an interesting mission as it involves three mission models.

Instead of aligning forward as in the previous tutorial we felt there is a need to demonstrate how we could align backward when moving with the robot. This is not a rare case. The attachments of the robot are generally at the front of the robot and especially during FIRST LEGO League competitions the robot must move backward very often. It is helpful to have in your toolbox the ability to align backward with the robot.

In this video tutorial, we demonstrate one of the unique missions of the FIRST LEGO League competitions - we must carry a rather large object from base an leave it on the field. This takes some considerations as other missions must be accomplished before that.

In this video tutorial, we push two of the mission models with a pinless active attachment with gears. The goal is to push the mission models after the blue lines. This attachment is interesting as it demonstrates a non-straightforward idea of how we can push the mission models. We explain the Scratch program and how we use the motion sensors - you will learn how to turn to a specific angle by using the motion sensor.

So far, we’ve explored a line-following algorithm commonly referred to as duck walking. Let’s take a closer look at how it works and consider how many distinct states it actually involves.

In more advanced robotics programming, your robot may need to respond in three or more different ways depending on sensor input. Up to this point, we've created programs with only two possible outcomes using a switch block: a condition is checked, and the robot performs one action or the other based on the result.

But what if the robot needs more than just two responses? To handle this, we can use multiple conditions—often implemented with nested switch blocks or structured decision chains. In this section, we’ll explore how to build programs that go beyond binary choices and enable your robot to react intelligently to more complex environments.

When you hear the task “program the robot to follow a black line,” you’ll most likely imagine a program that works like this:

• If the color sensor detects black (meaning the robot is over the line), the robot moves forward.
• If the color sensor detects a different color (meaning the robot is not over the line), the robot turns toward the line.

The main takeaways from today's lesson are how to alternate between following a line and performing other actions needed to complete the basic level of the line-following challenge, and how to plan your program ahead of time. Today's program will serve as a foundation to build upon for solving more advanced line-following challenges.

PID is the most popular method for programming line-following robots. It’s a bit complex, so this tutorial is longer, as we’ll break it down into steps and explain each element of the equation.
