In this video tutorial we try to move forward with a LEGO Mindstorms Robot Inventor robot and we try to keep a straight line using the Motion Sensor. Without entering into the details of the programming we demonstrate what is the behavior of the robot when trying to keep a straight line with the Motion Sensor while we are participating in a FIRST LEGO League competition.
From programs that rely entirely on proportional line following to those that use a PID-type program where "P" stands for the proportional line following component, proportional line following has proven to be a core mechanic in line following competitions.
Before we can run Python programs on the robot, we need to open the SPIKE software, create a Python project, and connect the Hub to the computer. In this tutorial, you will learn how to do each of these steps using the LEGO SPIKE software.
One attachment to rule them all...We have seen it and it works -> solving most of the competition models with only one attachment. In this video tutorial without programming we would walk you through the principles and methods of using a single attachment for most of the FIRST LEGO League competition models. One can learn alot from using as few parts as possible to solve as many missions as possible.
Based on your feedback we've build a course for introducing new students to the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 programming and construction. It is designed for school groups, competition teams and students alone in home that can get our feedback on their progress
Each palette contains programming blocks that share common purpose. We will cover most of them
There are two types of inertia to familiarize yourself with. One you know intuitively, while the other is more obscure. Both must be considered when building your own robots, especially in future competitions.
This video tutorial contains a detailed explanation on how we accomplish the FIRST LEGO League 2018-2019 Into Orbit mission called M09. STRENGTH EXERCISE. I could think for a couple of missions in previous years that require lifting a heavy object. Let's see how this mission could be accomplished.
The problem with the attention of students
We all know that it is very hard to control students’ attention even in an in-person classroom and it is even harder in a remote learning environment from home.
Now with remote learning, a teacher must be even more engaging, and the best teachers integrate more and more playful based learning so that students are interested and involved.
In this article, we will share how to achieve that, what are the best practices and benefits and how to convince your decision-makers to allow more play-based learning in your virtual and physical classrooms.
In this video tutorial we demonstrate a few ways to use the Distance sensor from the LEGO Mindstorms Robot Inventor on FIRST LEGO League competitions. We don't enter into the details about programming as we do in the LEGO Mindstorms Robot Inventor Programming course, because here we demonstrate the behavior of the robot when the sensor is use and we make the argument that you should always use sensors at FIRST LEGO League competitions
PID is the most popular method for programming line-following robots. It’s a bit complex, so this tutorial is longer, as we’ll break it down into steps and explain each element of the equation.
This approach to programming line-following robots is not ideal for beginners. Attempting to learn this as a first step in competition preparation may give a misleading impression of the competition's complexity and could discourage students from learning the necessary skills to compete in this category.
In episode 11 we looked at one of the most important topics for the competition - calibrating the light sensors. In this video I would like to show you how to use a more programmatic approach. This means letting the robot do the calibration on its own. Automatically.
In this episode I would like to show you a way to solve the FLL 2012 Medicine mission using an LEGO Mindstorms NXT Ultrasonic Sensor and a system of gears that converts circular motion to linear.
Starting leJOS might be very problematic, since you need to install a few libraries and make some configurations. In this video tutorial I am showing a step-by-step guide on how you could install leJOS on your Ubuntu Linux. And it is quite easy.
If you look at the properties of the move block and the motor block LEGO Mindstorms NXT, you will see that they have much in common. Still they have several differences. You should be aware of these differences in order to choose the appropriate block for your needs.
