This robot is a simplified spinoff of the Box Robots (Box Robot 1 and Box Robot 2). It may be build with a single set, but it will require extra technic beams 7x5 with open centers.
The name of the robot - "Squmo" is derived from the ancient tradition of connecting two words to make on and hense - "Square sumo" because "Squmo".

On every FIRST LEGO League competition and generally robotics competitions with LEGO robots, we build attachments to accomplish missions and we must accomplish the missions in a limited amount of time. Most of the time we can not accomplish the missions with a single attachment and we have to change attachments. This is where building robot attachments that are easy to remove really makes sense. This robot extends the Tetrix Box Robot chassis for FTC competitions with an additional arm. The arm could be used for lifting and placing objects and could be quite useful.
There is a special rubber band at the end of the arm, because there are not enough parts in the Tetrix set and we had to use a rubber band. But the principle of the arm is interesting, useful and you should be familiar with it - the arm keeps the motors always in the right orientation.

As we are already off the season we decided to look back at the competition. First, we will take a look at the working solution for FIRST LEGO League 2017 Manhole Cover. This was generally accepted as one of the most difficult missions during the competition. We've built a single attachment to accomplish it.

Here is Mintonet. The robot is created to be used in pairs, but you can also build just one and practice your shooting with a box. The robot works with plastic balls between 5 and 7 cm. Using the ultrasonic sensor it can detect either its partner or a box and then it shoots. How many balls can you score?
