Building Instructions

This is an attachment is designed for Luly, small LEGO Education SPIKE Prime competition robot with 3D building instructions. On a robot most of the time you place attachments on the front/side/top. These instructions show how to build an attachment that could be placed on the front of the robot. The idea is to demonstrate the principle and you can expand and build a more specific attachment for the mission that you are accomplishing. Check the courses in which this attachment is used for more information and tutorials on how to use it.

The Bench mission in FIRST LEGO League 2020 was one of the more complex missions during the competition. It involved two things - lifting part of the mission model and bringing it back to base and in the same time dropping 4 different boxes which was difficult to achieve. We came up with two solutions for SPIKE Prime and for Robot Inventor and this is the Robot Inventor solution. Take a look. You will learn how to build complex attachments doing more than one thing at a time.

This is an pinless robot attachment designed for taking loops. It's built with LEGO MINDSTORMS Robot Inventor parts and it demonstrates how to collect a loop while moving with the robot. The attachment is designed for Luly, small LEGO Education SPIKE Prime competition robot with 3D building instructions. This is a heavy lifting attachment and it can lift mission models vertically. It is build entirely from LEGO MINDSTORMS Robot Inventor 51515 parts. This is one of the more complex and interesting attachments that we demonstrate in the course and it show how a few gear wheels and levers could be used to change the motion from circular to linear. This is powerful concept that could be very valuable during FIRST LEGO League competitions.

- note that you could attach it to the brick both sides, depending on which technique you would like to test. Use the video as a reference.

We took a stab at building a box robot entirely with chains. It is difficult to find these chains. They were part of the original LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Robots, but we had an idea. Can we power the whole box robot and all the attachments with the chains. This allows us to do a nice demonstration when and how chains could be used.

To build the robot you will need about 180 of these the chain pars - 3711a. They could be found from NXT and from some technic sets.

This robots require additional parts on top of the LEGO Education SPIKE Prime and LEGO Education SPIKE Essentials. Check out the additional parts required.

The Sports Utility Vehicle box robot is the new marvelous box robot that we've created. It is designed for teams that would like to learn how to build balanced, stable and working robot chassis following our box principle. It is smaller and easier to build than box robot 1 and it is more simple than box robot 2. 

The main advantages of this robot compared to previous box robots are 

 - motors in the right direction, so when rotating the motor forward, the robot moves forward.

 - it is much easier to attach attachments. There are 4 different gears on which you could attach attachments. 

 - it has a large clearance - which means that it could move over obstacles.

Of course, it has a Gyro and two Color Sensors.  Not only that, but we have all the cables shown in the construction.

When not to use this robot?

The SUV Box robot is design to be used with a Gyro sensor and two Color Sensors for alignment. It is not working well for following lines as the sensors are very high and they are very high to allow for high clearance of the chassis. If you need to follow lines we recommend the Dominator X-Y robot

The Chain Monster is one of the coolest Box Robots that we've built. But what is a robot without attachments that can accomplish missions? These here are 3D building instructions demonstrating how the frame for the robot could be built. We've discussed frames in the Box Robots courses for EV3. Take a look at this one. This is an attachment that accomplishes a mission. But they all do. This attachment is special as it is a Glide pinless attachment. It teachers the principles of building attachments that could be easily glided onto the robot and allow for quick changes of different attachments. It is designed for the

Vex IQ robot base which could be used with different attachments. The gravity center of this robot is in the backside and it has a lot of space in front for attachments.

We've built a box robot chassis that could easily be extended with attachments for FIRST Technical Challenge competition.

If you ever felt that FIRST Technical Challenge is difficult and you don't know where to start from, building this Tetrix robot is the first thing that you could do. You would have 4 motors, plenty of space for attachments and good access to the phone.

The robot is built from a Tetrix Set without additional parts. It's a winning robot in just 109 steps 

Here is an idea. What if a robot does not need attachments. What if there is one special attachment on the front that could do most of the work? Probably an attachment that allows you to move a lever in any direction.

This here is a Box Robot with X - Y axys plane. This robot doesn't need active attachments because it has X - Y table that do the job. Imagine that there is a plane on the front of the robot. With the rack mechanism you can move to any coordinates on this plane. 

We have a lot of ideas how to make it even better. We will try to release them in the next few versions.

Kiril Mitov's most favourite attachment. To quote him "I had a really great fun building this attachment and recording the videos for it".

It's an attachment with a Rubber band and a Flywheel and a Gear Wheel and a Worm Gear. So much knowledge in just one small attachment. The goal of the attachment is to be able to have an active attachment without actually having a motor. So you can place that attachment and it will do the work for you instead of using a motor to power it.

A LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Chassis with wheels at the front. Built with the EV3 set you can use this robot chassis as a base for extending with attachments.
