For World Robotics Olympiad Ball Collection competitions we prepared an interesting Robot Base Chassis that could be extended with a container. The container contains the ping-pong ball. A mechanism collects them. This LEGO Mindstorms EV3 building instructions are for the chassis of the robot and were one of the versions from a series of robots.
You can position the motors on the construction in a number of different ways. We are exploring the advantages and disadvantages of each of them. These are building instructions for the first way to position the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 motors.
This LEGO Mindstorms Attachment has three gears, one frame and two axles. The goal of the attachment is to use the gears to change the direction in which the motion is transferred.
User this flywheels construction for experiments in physics. Start rotating the wheel and they would accumulate energy. You can try to calculate this energy and to measure how fast it would be consumed.

Attachment frames are used on Base Robot Chassis to make it easier to add and remove attachments very fast. This frame is for the Box Robot 1. It is a single module build with LEGO Mindstorms EV3 parts and it could handle attachment on all sides.
No need for all attachments to be powered by motors and to include gears. It's sometimes possible to use a simple robot attachment to collect objects. Such attachments we call passive and this one is an example for the Box Robot Chassis.

The central axle of the robot is most of the time the most important. The robot moves forward and does things with this axle. It is important to learn to you could extend such axles, and change the level and position of the extensions.
