Prepare for Arab championship for robotics

This Arab championship for robotics guide focuses on the unique characteristics of the competition and how different parts of it could be approached. The goal of the guide is to get you started and guide you along the way without solving the entire competition. You have to walk the last mile on your own. At the moment the guide is focused mostly on the Line Tracking part which has some unique characteristics in the line following.

Introduction - Why this guide?

We are mentors, judges, teachers, professional engineers, and software developers with a lot of experience in robotics competitions and we've been helping teams for the last 15 years. At FLLCasts, we share specific courses, robot constructions, attachments, and programs demonstrating how various missions could be accomplished. Note that we do not share solutions for the current season as this is against our rules, but we share the principles by which different missions could be accomplished and how similar missions were accomplished in the past. You have all the information in one place.

FLL is a journey that is sometimes difficult, but always rewarding. You are not alone in this journey. FLLCasts has helped tens of thousands of students build Box Robots, use rubber bands, and program advanced state machines to achieve consistency of the behavior of the robot. We are your partner with all the experience and knowledge that we have, and we will guide you through the process of learning and accomplishing the missions.

Where to start?

You can start by moving through a specific course for your LEGO robotics set. You can participate in Arab Robotics Competition with any different robotics sets, but the four LEGO sets that are most suitable are LEGO Education SPIKE Prime, LEGO Mindstorms Robot Inventor, LEGO Mindstorms EV3, and LEGO Mindstorms NXT.

Both EV3 and NXT are no longer available from LEGO. LEGO does not sell these sets, but almost all of the constructions that were previously built with EV3 and NXT could be reused. After all, they are just LEGO parts with different electronics.

Line Tracking

For the line tracking part of Arab Robotics Competition the most useful skill is to learn how to follow lines that have a lot of gaps and turns. We've prepared the principles in a course using 3 color sensors, but you can of course add a forth one to make the robot even more consistent and reliable.

Testimonials

FLL Casts has great content! Our team is composed of 4th-5th grade students and we found the information you provided on topics like Box robots *extremely* helpful. Also, the tips on how to follow a line and other types of intelligent robot control are invaluable. There is no resource like FLL Casts out there for a new team of young kids who are eager and excited to learn the EV3. Neither Lego nor First Lego League provides *any* step-by-step instruction from both a mechanical and programming point of view - which seems like a huge miss.

I want to thank you for your programs, they were so valuable in having a FLL team move forward.

First of all, you have produced a page with very nice content. Thank you very much. Since I participated in the FLL contest, I was using your web page in robot design and basically to learn the codes. I chose not to participate in the competition this year. I am thinking of rejoining your platform when I decide to join the competition again.
