In this video lesson I am building a LEGO Mindstorms EV3 active attachment powered by a small gear wheel. The attachment could move up and down, it is very useful for collecting objects. It could easily be adapted and used on other robots.

We are making a parallel with Video Lesson 56 from the series and we are also showing ways to improve the stability of an axle which is most of the time neglected, but could lead to great problems.

In the video we improve on the robotics mechanism for pushing the different blocks out of the robot container. We continue from the previous video.

This time we stop on "Using the Right Senses" mission, or actually on how to solve the "Right Senses" mission without "Senses" (sensors). To achieve that we use the carabineer counstructed in one of the previous tutorials, of course after a small modification.

On every FIRST LEGO League competition and generally robotics competitions with LEGO robots, we build attachments to accomplish missions and we must accomplish the missions in a limited amount of time. Most of the time we can not accomplish the missions with a single attachment and we have to change attachments. This is where building robot attachments that are easy to remove really makes sense. This animation demonstrate the use of an LEGO MINDSTORMS Robot Inventor attachment to lift a lever of a mission model. The mission model is the Power Switch mission model where you have to move the lever from one side of the mission model to another. The principle of the attachment is powerful and easy to implement for all kinds of missions.

We calculate the number of rotatios when a gear system is involved. The driving wheel will have to do a number of rotations for the driven wheel to rotate to a desired number of degrees. In our specific case when the driven gear wheel is rotate to about 90 degrees the legs will lift the robot.

This video tutorial had a different idea than what we recorded. We planned for a push/pull attachment as we've shown such attachments for LEGO Education SPIKE PRIME and LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3. However, the issues with LEGO MINDSTORMS Robot Inventor set 51515 is that we could not figure out an easy way to build a push pull attachment that meets our criteria for an attachment. Because of this we made a slight modification on the idea and it is again push/pull attachment but not moving in a line but in a circle - circular movement.

In this video tutorial we demonstrate an attachment that can accomplish Drop missions. A drop mission is when you have to move on the FIRST LEGO League field with the robot, reach a mission model, and drop a part in this mission model. First time we saw such missions I think was in FLL 2013. The attachment, the robot and the mission model could be build from a single LEGO MINDSTORMS Robot Inventor 51515 set. The mechanism for dropping works by releasing a lever when the attachment is pushed against the mission model. Check them out.

This is a 10 out of 10 tutorial demonstrating the consistency and reliability of a LEGO Education SPIKE Prime robot when the robot delivers a mission model to a specific position on the field.

In this video tutorial, we carry, deliver and drop a large object with an attachment that is much more stable than the basic. We get out of the base, and we actually carry the model. This attachment is also auto-correcting as it has a guiding beam at the front, and even when the robot makes a mistake, we can successfully accomplish the mission.

In this video tutorial, we demonstrate how to gently push an object to accomplish the mission. "Gently" means that we are pushing but not with force. If we push using force, the mission model will fall, and we will not accomplish the mission. We use LEGO Education SPIKE Prime and the Ultrasonic Sensor.

This is a 10 out of 10 tutorial on a basic approach for one of the unique challenges in FIRST LEGO League competitions. This basic approach to a solution is not very consistent, and in some of the next tutorials, we will present a new solution. But we decided to record it to demonstrate how reliable this attachment is when it comes to carrying large objects. That could give you ideas of things to avoid.
