This is an active attachment. Active means that is is power by a motor. It's built with LEGO Education SPIKE Prime parts and it demonstrates how to build a lifting attachment for competitions in robotics like FIRST LEGO League/World Robotics Olympiad and others. Lifting is one of the most important parts when accomplishing missions at the competitions. What's interesting is that this attachment changes the orientation of rotation with it's gears. It is designed for Luly, small LEGO Education SPIKE Prime competition robot with 3D building instructions. Check the courses in which this attachment is used for more information and tutorials on how to use it.
This is the first type of an active geared attachment. "Active" means that is is power by a motor. "Geared" means that it use gears. "Reusable" means that you can easily extend the attachment with additional parts - eg - you can reuse it. It shows a basic principle of how power is transferred between different axles that have different orientation in space- like when one of the axles is horizontal and the other is vertical. It's built with LEGO Education SPIKE Prime parts and could be used in competitions in robotics like FIRST LEGO League/World Robotics Olympiad and others. It's designed for Luly, small LEGO Education SPIKE Prime competition robot with 3D building instructions. Check the courses in which this attachment is used for more information and tutorials on how to use it.
This is the second type of an active geared attachment. "Active" means that is is power by a motor. "Geared" means that it uses gears. "Reusable" means that you can easily extend the attachment with additional parts - eg - you can reuse it. It shows a basic principle of how power is transferred between different axles that have different orientation in space- like when one of the axles is horizontal and the other is vertical. This is the third type of an active geared attachment. "Active" means that is is power by a motor. "Geared" means that it uses gears. "Reusable" means that you can easily extend the attachment with additional parts - eg - you can reuse it. It shows a basic principle of how power is transferred between different axles that have different orientation in space - like when one of the axles is horizontal and the other is vertical. This is the forth type of an active geared attachment. This incredibly compact SPIKE Prime Box Robot is made for competitions like FIRST LEGO League (FLL) and World Robotics Olympiad (WRO). Whakatae (from Maori's word "whakataetae", which means "competitive") is long 17 LEGO units and is with a width of 15 LEGO units. In front of the wheels it has two color sensors which it uses to align. Whakatae also has two Large motors for moving and has two medium motors for attachments!
It's has "V2" in its name, because it's the second version of Whakatae - LEGO Education SPIKE Prime Competition Box robot. The difference between the two is that the first one can be built with only a Large Motor and a Color sensor in addition to the Base set, while this one needs an additional ball bearing. This provides this robot with a lot more stability and can be seen as a true upgrade to the first version.
With this LEGO Education SPIKE Prime attachment we accomplish the basketball mission from the FIRST LEGO League 2020 RePlay competition. The goal of the mission is to put the ball into the basket and to have the basket up at the end of the round. This is a complex attachment. It uses gear wheels and warm gears to transfer the power from the motor to the top of the attachment. At the top of the attachment there is a wheel with a rope. The rope is build with LEGO Education SPIKE Prime parts. If you have the chance, use a different LEGO rope, but if you don't that this one will be ok.
This reusable attachment could easily be placed on the side of a LEGO MINDSTORMS Robot Inventor robot and accomplish different missions that require the robot to interact with mission models. It uses gear wheels.
We use this attachment to demonstrate the principle of an active attachment. This is an attachment activated from the motor. It has one level attached to it. It could be reused. The attachment transfers power from the motor to the end of the lever and we can accomplish missions like the Power Switch mission from the FLLCasts Off-season mission models.
First version of a reusable gear attachment. By following the same principle for assembling the attachments you can change the direction of the gear wheels and build powerful attachments that could accomplish missions in any direction.
Second version of a reusable gear attachment. This time the black gear wheel is at the top. It is useful when you are constrained by space.
Third version of a reusable gear attachment. In this scenario a single motor could power two different axles in two different directions. If you use it to accomplish a mission do not forget to send us a video. We would love to see it.
Forth version of a reusable gear attachment. Again, it powers two axles and this time there is a lever connected to one of the axles.
This is a heavy lifting attachment and it can lift mission models vertically. It is build entirely from LEGO MINDSTORMS Robot Inventor 51515 parts. This is one of the more complex and interesting attachments that we demonstrate in the course and it show how a few gear wheels and levers could be used to change the motion from circular to linear. This is powerful concept that could be very valuable during FIRST LEGO League competitions.
