VEX IQ Crossover. Synchronizing gear wheels with the second part of the attachment Pro Preview

In previous sections we've built the attachment that could grab and hold two objects - hexballs and it was working with a rack. Right here. We did a second experiment for an attachment that works in a different way with gear wheels and with belts and that should solve the same task. Let's enter into details. We've already discussed this attachment but in more details about the synchronization of the two parts of the attachment - the right part and the left part of the attachment. The most difficult part of this attachment is the synchronization between the right part of the attachment and the left part of the attachment. These are right and left from my point of view and the synchronization between the two sides right here on the left side and the two sides right here on the right side. This attachment is great because you learn a lot about using gear wheels, belts and synchronizing different levers attached to gear wheels. So, you should construct this attachment now following the instructions below in the course section and after you've constructed you should try to synchronize. And the synchronization is a process of details. So, you should be very careful with the synchronization to actually make it work. What you should do? We've already discussed the synchronization of the right part of the attachment where we have the blue wheels and now because we don't have more blue wheels in the set we use these black squares as wheels. And we've attached the levers right here on the sides to these black squares. Now we should try to synchronize them to make them work in sync. So that we close and open without any problems. How do we do this? First, there are two belts right here and we should start from the belts. I would remove the belts like this and then I'll remove the gear wheels like this. And now we have these two sides freely moving. Then we align this lever like this. And we take the right part and we place the two squares so that they are aligned to each other. And they both have from my point of view in the top left, from your point of view in the bottom right

we have the pins. So, from my point of view it's on the left top of the square. We have the two pins on which we attach the side and this is the way we synchronize the first side. Then we add the axle from below and it's a little difficult to do it alone that's why it's a good idea to have someone helping you with this.

Again, this is aligned to this.

Okay. And then we attach the belt from below. And it's a difficult process for synchronization but once they are synchronized they'll hopefully stay synchronized. You should have more hands here that's why it's good to have a team because someone should be holding this square, someone should be holding this square and prevent them from moving while synchronizing. And then I'll add the belt from below and I have the belt and I have this side. And now when I move you can see that this side stays up and it moves in a very good way. We should do the same with the other part. You should repeat the same process for the other two black squares. And by trying to align don't spend too much time on aligning but try to align and you'll see how difficult is sometimes to align these parts to make them work together. And probably this attachment has a lot more advantages because we don't have such alignments and so many parts in the attachment because this is much more simpler and easier to use. But for now as an exercise try to bring this attachment aligned two sides, make it work. It will be a difficult process and if you manage to do it, try to take some pictures and videos of it and send it to us. It will be really interesting to see it work. Some if the teams that we've worked with managed to do it and to synchronize it correctly but it requires a few more hands. You can't do it with two hands and it requires a few more tries.
